ARTIST STATEMENT

A bold three-panel exploration of narcissism and self-commodification, this piece confronts the viewer with the uncomfortable reality of the selfie as both performance and plea. The bathroom mirror—intimate, private, yet infinitely shareable—becomes the stage for a one-person show with an audience of thousands. The work interrogates: if vulnerability is performed, is it still authentic? If intimacy is broadcast, does it cease to be intimate? These questions remain unanswered, much like the DMs that inspired this series. Part of the permanent collection at the New Museum and discussed in "Reflections on Reflection: The Bathroom Selfie in Contemporary Art Practice" (Oxford University Press).
